Although it’s a bit late to still have a Christmas tree around- my husband, Greg, and I were too busy to take ours down until this weekend (plus I really liked the way our tree looked). My change for week 4 is to recycle our Christmas tree instead of throwing it in the dumpster. I used Earth911.com to find a recycling center in our city that accepts Christmas trees. We walked past the dumpster and fought with our tree to jam it into the car. Then we took it to the recycling center where it will be used for mulch.
In general, I believe live Christmas trees are better for local economies and the environment compared to artificial trees. Artificial trees are likely to be made overseas with petroleum based products doused in flame retardant chemicals. The tree farm that we went to was family operated and they planted 2 or 3 trees for every tree cut.
